Koto-ku is known as a “water metropolis” containing the “Fukagawa”, “Joto” and “Rinkai” areas.
“Fukagawa” is a traditional and heart warming town. “Monzen-nakacho” area has an old street where you can get a feel for traditional Japan by attending the shrine and temple ceremonies and festivals. On the other hand, the “Rinkai” area” in the southern part of the ward means “area along the water”. This area is developing into a place for business, entertainment, shopping and museums. Many high-rise condos and buildings are under construction due to the expanding population.
The “Rinkai” area is connected to the rest of Tokyo by the “Keiyo”, “Yurakucho”, “Rinkai” and “Yurikamome” lines. It is only 8 minutes from the “Yurakucho” and “Toyosu” stations and 30 minutes from Tokyo Disney Resorts. Water taxis also provide a very convenient way to go to many places in Tokyo.
The 2020 Olympics and Paralympics will be held in Tokyo. Seventeen of the 37 stadiums that will be used will be built in the gulf area.
Along the “coastal area”, various shopping and entertainment facilities such as “Venus Fort”, “Palette Town”, “Diversity Tokyo” and “Oedo-Onsen-Monogatari” (hot spring spa in Odaiba) are located and visited by many people during holidays.
“LaLaport Toyosu” is another popular place where many fashion apparel, household, interior goods, and food stores are situated. “KidZania” is a unique place where kids can experience various types of professions. It has been a popular place for kids since it opened in 2006.
In addition, “Super Viva Home” is one of the largest DIY (do it yourself) stores in Japan.
